LONGITUDINAL OMM SPIRAL
YEAR 2 | PAGE 58B - SYSTEM-INTEGRATED OPP/OMM + SPACED RETRIEVAL
C. WEEKLY OMM SPIRAL - THREE SHORT RETRIEVALS + ONE SUPERVISED APPLICATION
| Session | Core task | Example output |
|---|---|---|
| Retrieval 1 - diagnosis Retrieval 2 - mechanism | Regional landmarks, TART/tissue texture, ROM, segmental motion, named dysfunction. Biomechanics, autonomics/viscerosomatics, lymphatics or respiratory mechanics. | State diagnosis -> position of ease -> restrictive barrier from memory. Explain why the OPP relationship fits the current organ-system presentation. |
| Retrieval 3 - technique/safety | Technique family, direct/indirect, active/passive, indication, contraindication, reassessment. | Choose a safe technique class and verbalize why an unsafe option fails. |
C. WEEKLY OMM SPIRAL - THREE SHORT RETRIEVALS + ONE SUPERVISED APPLICATION — D. SYSTEM-INTEGRATION MAP
Supervised lab Palpation, setup, patient/operator position, consent, monitoring and reassessment. Faculty/peer-corrected performance on a new partner/scenario.
C. WEEKLY OMM SPIRAL - THREE SHORT RETRIEVALS + ONE SUPERVISED APPLICATION — D. SYSTEM-INTEGRATION MAP
| Current system | OPP/OMM retrieval lane |
|---|---|
| Respiratory / thoracic GI / autonomic | Rib and thoracic mechanics, thoracic inlet, breathing mechanics, lymphatic concepts; preserve pulmonary red-flag reasoning. Viscerosomatic levels and autonomic relationships; use as an adjunct to conventional diagnostic reasoning. |
| Reproductive / pregnancy MSK / pain | Pelvis/sacrum mechanics and pregnancy-specific safety; obstetric red flags and school restrictions come first. Regional biomechanics, structural diagnosis, gait/posture, muscle energy/counterstrain/MFR families and contraindications. |
| Headache / neuro Wellness / function | Cervical/cranial considerations only after dangerous secondary headache, neurologic and vascular causes are addressed. Ergonomics, movement, exercise, function and whole-person goals alongside standard prevention and disease care. |
C. WEEKLY OMM SPIRAL - THREE SHORT RETRIEVALS + ONE SUPERVISED APPLICATION — 4. Diagnosis comes before technique DEEP EXPLANATION The Academy OPP foundation uses a repeatable chain: history/red flags -> observation/TART -> regional ROM -> segmental motion -> somatic dysfunction -> indication/contraindication -> treatment plan.
Technique selection follows the diagnosis.
WHY STUDENTS MISS IT Technique names and setup mnemonics are easier to memorize than structural reasoning. EASIEST CLUE If you cannot state the dysfunction and barrier/ease relationship, you are not ready to choose a setup. 5. Safety and contraindications are core content, not footnotes DEEP EXPLANATION For each technique family, know who should not receive it, what instability/red flag changes the plan, and when a gentler approach is preferred. Consent, comfort and reassessment belong to the same memory
trace as setup.
