Medical School MD + DO Mastery

A 4-year, board-aligned study system for medical school and licensing exams.

Walk the full Year 1–4 curriculum — foundational sciences, organ-system blocks, clinical clerkships and advanced practice — each with mastery checklists and linked learning resources, plus a dedicated review system for school exams, Shelf/COMAT, USMLE Step 1–3 and COMLEX-USA Levels 1–3.

OPP / OMM INTEGRATION

YEAR 2 | PAGE 57C - STRUCTURAL DIAGNOSIS, SAFETY, AUTONOMICS + CLINICAL APPLICATION

F. OPP / OMM REASONING SPINE

StepWhat mastery looks like
1. Localize 2. MechanismRecognize the symptomatic region and relevant structural diagnosis using school-taught exam findings. Connect anatomy, biomechanics, autonomics/viscerosomatics, lymphatics or respiratory mechanics where clinically relevant.
3. Decide whether OMT belongs 4. Select technique classDifferentiate an appropriate adjunctive osteopathic approach from presentations requiring urgent biomedical evaluation or where OMT is not indicated. Know broad technique families, mechanism and the patient/structural context in which the school teaches them.
5. Safety 6. ReassessScreen contraindications, precautions, tissue condition, instability and patient tolerance before technique selection. Know the expected treatment goal and reassess findings; OMT does not replace required diagnostic evaluation.

G. HIGH-YIELD INTEGRATION LANES

LaneExamples of integration
MSK / pain Respiratory / thoracicRegional anatomy, gait/biomechanics, structural diagnosis, muscle/tendon/joint pathology, safe technique selection. Rib and thoracic mechanics, breathing mechanics, lymphatic concepts, pulmonary red flags and biomedical management.
GI / pelvic / pregnancy Headache / neuroAutonomic/viscerosomatic relationships, sacral/pelvic mechanics, pregnancy-specific safety and obstetric red flags. Cervical/cranial considerations only after dangerous secondary causes and neurologic red flags are addressed.
Preventive / wellnessPatient education, function, exercise, ergonomics, prevention and whole-person goals alongside disease-specific care.

G. HIGH-YIELD INTEGRATION LANES — 7. Cramming OMM late creates retrieval without clinical integration DEEP EXPLANATION OMM facts are more durable when attached to systems throughout preclinical study: rib mechanics with pulmonary, autonomics with GI/cardiac, pelvic/sacral mechanics with reproductive, and structural

diagnosis with MSK.

G. HIGH-YIELD INTEGRATION LANES — WHY STUDENTS MISS IT A separate “OMM weekend” feels efficient because much of the biomedical core is already familiar. EASIEST CLUE If you can recall a technique but cannot identify when, why or whether it is appropriate, integration is incomplete. 8. Technique setup without diagnosis and safety is not mastery DEEP EXPLANATION COMLEX-style reasoning can ask what is appropriate, contraindicated or unsafe. The useful sequence is presentation -> structural diagnosis -> technique class -> safety screen -> reassessment, not memorized

hand placement in isolation.

WHY STUDENTS MISS IT Setup mnemonics are easier to memorize than the diagnostic logic that justifies them. EASIEST CLUE Before naming a technique, state the dysfunction and the safety issue that must be excluded. 9. OMM should not replace urgent biomedical evaluation DEEP EXPLANATION Osteopathic care is integrated care. Red flags, instability, infection, fracture, neurologic compromise, vascular emergencies and other dangerous processes must be recognized before considering adjunctive

manual treatment.

WHY STUDENTS MISS IT OMM-heavy review can accidentally cue “find a manipulation” even when the stem is testing emergency recognition. EASIEST CLUE Ask first: is there a dangerous diagnosis or contraindication that changes the sequence? — H. PRACTICAL-SKILLS BOUNDARY

Hands-on OMT technique performance should be learned and assessed through the medical school's supervised OMM lab, faculty instruction and current institutional standards. This Academy supports conceptual review; it does not substitute for supervised psychomotor training. 2026/27 COMLEX Level 1 blueprint expanded edition - verify current NBOME and school guidance before testing
