Medical School MD + DO Mastery

A 4-year, board-aligned study system for medical school and licensing exams.

Walk the full Year 1–4 curriculum — foundational sciences, organ-system blocks, clinical clerkships and advanced practice — each with mastery checklists and linked learning resources, plus a dedicated review system for school exams, Shelf/COMAT, USMLE Step 1–3 and COMLEX-USA Levels 1–3.

OFFICIAL ASSESSMENT STACK - INTERPRET, DO NOT WORSHIP

ALL YEARS | PAGE 38C - NBME / NBOME / SCHOOL SIGNALS + FORMAT FIDELITY

Official assessments are valuable because their content, score reporting and/or testing conditions are designed to align with the exam family they support. They still must be interpreted with timing, trend, measurement uncertainty and school policy in mind.

F. WHAT EACH TOOL IS BEST FOR

Tool / phaseCurrent signalUse it for readiness
School exam / practical / OSCELocal objectives, promotion rules and observed clinical skills vary by program.Primary evidence for course/clerkship progression; follow school thresholds and faculty feedback.
NBME CBSSA - Step 1Score report includes estimated probability of passing Step 1 plus equated percent correct and content-area feedback.Serial calibration of Step 1 readiness; combine with trend, Qbank repair and school policy - not a guarantee.
NBME CSMS - Shelf50 MCQs/form; 75 min standard-paced; approximates the corresponding Subject Exam score scale and provides longitudinal feedback.Rotation-specific readiness + NBME-style reasoning; standard-paced forms are more representative for timing.
NBME CCSSA - Step 2 CK200 questions in 4 x 50-question sections; 75 min/section standard-paced; estimated probability of passing + ECP and longitudinal INSIGHTS.Cumulative Step 2 calibration across dedicated; interpret several recent forms rather than one outlier.
COMSAE - COMLEXPhase-aligned self-assessment + score/performance profile. NBOME explicitly cautions against using it alone to predict COMLEX; no numerical minimum passing score is set by COMSAE.DO readiness when timed/proctored where possible, combined with school performance, COMAT and other markers.
COMAT-SE - clerkship formative60 questions/form with real-time correct answer, rationale, references and progress dashboard; same discipline blueprints as COMAT Clinical.Target weak rotation domains and learn from rationales; treat as formative learning, not a standalone pass predictor.

G. FORMAT FIDELITY - PRACTICE THE INTERFACE YOU WILL USE

  • USMLE: use the official USMLE Exam Resources + interactive testing experience for the current software, block structure, tutorial and sample questions. The current Step 1/Step 2 tutorial at the live exam is briefer than the full interactive practice experience.
  • NBME: current self-assessments use the newer exam-like interface; the NBME Learning Resources - Unlocking Assessment video series shows students/residents and physicians working through real NBME-style vignettes and answer choices.
  • COMLEX: use NBOME COMLEX-USA Practice Resources to rehearse sample questions and level-specific tools; do not discover audio/visual/interface features for the first time on test day.
  • COMSAE: timed mode most closely approximates COMLEX pacing; self-paced mode is useful for learning but should be labeled accordingly when interpreting the score.

H. READ A SCORE REPORT WITHOUT FALSE PRECISION

Report elementUse it forDo not do
Overall metric / probabilityPrimary calibration of the whole test sample at that moment.Treat it as a guarantee or ignore the testing conditions.
Content-area profileFind broad recurring weak domains and decide where to allocate repair time.Overreact to a tiny category with few items or rebuild an entire course from one bar.
Question-level reviewIdentify decisive clues, distractor logic, timing and repeat-error mechanisms.Copy explanations without producing a transfer rule and new-item re-test.
Longitudinal trendJudge direction and concordance across recent forms / school data.Cherry-pick the highest score or compare non-equivalent modes as if identical.
Time-per-item / pacing dataDetect slow processing, fixation and late-block deterioration.Assume every timing problem is a knowledge deficit.

H. READ A SCORE REPORT WITHOUT FALSE PRECISION — ASSESSMENT INTERPRETATION RULE Record every readiness assessment with: date | form | timing mode | score/report metric | major domain signals | testing conditions | one action triggered. This converts a score archive into a longitudinal decision record.
